Safe product
developers
address safety requirements throughout the product life cycle: specification, design, implementation, commissioning, operation and disposal.
Safety
advisers
design and improve the safety guidelines and best practices used by the product developers.
Safety
assurance
engineers and managers provide evidence concerning the actual acceptable risk of the products.
Safety
authorities
analyze this evidence for giving a safety guarantee to the top management of the company, the customers, the purchasers, the government and thus to the citizens.
The training leads to many jobs that concern safety engineering and safety management. Four groups of jobs are accessible as the participants’ career progresses.
These professional activities are carried out in companies that design or operate products, but also in consulting companies with very high expertise.
These safety professions deal with not only many aspects of safety, such as knowledge of hazards, risk assessment and treatment, but also reliability, human and organizational factors, as well as management. This diversity of points of view is one of the interests of these professions, which therefore requires an open mind.
In all these sectors, no product can be sold without a safety guarantee. Some examples:
Transport
The automation of transport is not a futuristic goal, but already a reality. For example, the Toulouse metro is automatic, autonomous cars are already driving on the motorways, supervised trains are transporting goods, and drones are preparing the planes of tomorrow.
The issue at the heart of this automation is safety.
Energy
You already know that safety is one of the key issues in conventional energy (e.g. oil and gas, nuclear). But did you know that safety is a critical issue for new energies such as biogas or fuel cells, but also for infrastructures such as the reliability of smart grids?
Chemicals and pharmaceuticals
Medicines and vaccines save thousands of people every year. But these benefits are only effective if the associated risks are kept under control. The sources of these risks concern the molecules or technologies used, but also the production and use.
Medical devices
In order to keep people healthy for as long as possible, medical devices are being developed. After major hospital equipment (scanners, etc.), personal devices are booming. Their commercialization requires the guarantee of their safety.
Production plants
Because of the hazardous substances handled, the automation, or the criticality of the products manufactured (e.g. aircraft, medical devices), safety is one of the essential concerns of plant managers.
